The guy was a jerk, just like that Coach Pejersky managing the Little League team against the Omulkgee Bulldogs. The picture demonstrated what passes for often seen behavior at ball games that should be played for fun, but often turns into a spectacle because of the parents and not the players. It's rewarding at times to watch a picture in which no major celebrity appears so the focus can remain on the principals who try to overcome the obstacles in their life and become a better person. Some will find the overt mention of God and faith to be overbearing, though I'm fairly sure there are real life situations that rely on the kind of rehabilitation experienced by Cory and other members of a spiritual group like Celebration Recovery. The film has it's share of baseball related scenes, and Cory's approach to coaching his team's youngsters can be well appreciated in direct counterpoint to his egotistical behavior as a major league ball player.
Due to it's simplicity and perhaps audience apathy towards this genre, Home Run will likely prove to be one of the most underrated films in a long time. It is of a recent slate of Christian message movies, and carries a certain pro-Celebrate Recovery message... But to summarize it as only that would do this movie and potential viewers a tremendous disservice.
things to do in Idyllwild, an eclectic mountaintop town that still feels like a secret
I've been disappointed in almost every "Christian" movie I've seen in the last years, including Mel Gibson's. Frankly, the acting and the production values don't meet my standards. The movie was well acted with good production. The kids are cute, the girls are cute and even the old jalopy cars have nice wheels. What I found objectionable was using the police as the bad guy. The show was a little long and the star was just to handsome but the girls like that.
It is well directed, very well produced, and has the best acting of any movie in this group. Pro baseball player Cory Brand is forced into a rehabilitation program in his Oklahoma hometown after several alcohol-related incidents. He is responsible for injuring his brother in an alcohol-related crash. Cory reluctantly enters a Celebrate Recovery. He eventually finds new hope when he gets honest about his checkered past, and takes on coaching duties for a Little League team.

Cory and Clay, who look to be around 8 and 6, are fearful. As Cory stands at the makeshift plate, dad hurls endless baseballs and recriminations. The characters felt real, and there were some feel-good, touching moments and surprises. So, please watch this movie or share it with everyone. And don't just pull the flaws out of the movie, its to enjoy and learn a message, that's how movies are supposed to be.
Hoping to save her client’s career and reputation after a DUI and a team suspension, Cory’s agent sends him back to the small town where he grew up. Forced to coach the local youth baseball team andspend eight weeks in the only recovery program in town, Cory can’t wait to return to his old life as quickly as possible. As his young players help him experience the joy of the game, Cory discovers his need to find freedom from his past and hope for his future … and win back the love he left behind. With this unexpected second chance, Cory finds himself on a powerful journey of transformation and redemption.

I'm in a mixed marriage, and my wife the Christian, lost interest in the movie despite to the strong religious overtones. As a Jew, I was fascinated by the use of religious values to help cure addictions; it's a strong and powerful message. “Home Run” is the heartfelt and deeply religious story of a baseball star’s struggle with alcoholism and the Christian faith-based recovery group that gets him through.
It’s a credit to Elrod that he handles all the curveballs he’s thrown in “Home Run” with some style. This sports drama follows a baseball star with a substance abuse problem forced to coach a youth team, in theaters April 19th. As someone who has dealt with these exact issues it blew me away.
With that said, I must say that the acting was very good and drew me into the story. I hope to see more two main actors in other movies in the future. Scott Elrod really made the character believable in his struggle . Dorian Brown reminded me of a young Sandra Bullock and was very charming in her performance.

The supporting cast wasn't great, but didn't stand out as terrible. I didn't watch this with any great expectations. A relatively unknown cast and what appears to be a pretty small budget (given that they didn't pay MLB to use real baseball team names.
The man playing the head of the Christian 12 step program, looks realistic and seems like he may have had some serious problems. Most of the other addicts were just as odd and good at acting. Betsy Sharkey of the Los Angeles Times was less positive, saying, "Almost from the beginning the message overwhelms the medium," and that the message was "overplayed". She said the portrayal of Cory's alcoholism "unfolds in such fits and starts that we rarely feel Cory's pain." However, she did praise Elrod's acting. Former Los Angeles Times film critic Betsy Sharkey is an award-winning entertainment journalist and bestselling author.
As I said I've been involved in a Prison ministry. We don't do alter calls and we're interdenominational. Do you wonder why the states and countries around the world are begging for ministries like ours to come to their units? It's because study after study has shown that the ONLY thing that works in reducing recidivism is a life changing experience and that is almost always centered around a religious experience. It doesn't matter that much what the religion is as long as the inmate sticks with it.
The young actors who played the little league team players had their moments, a couple of which were good for a chuckle. Home Run is a very good and very simple story; more main-stream than Facing the Giants, Fireproof, or even Courageous. It chronicles the career of a major-league baseball player whose excesses get the best of him. We watch and enjoy the repair of his life and the lives of those around him.
As a public relations spokesperson, she plays her character exceptionally well, being able to profit from those she represents, yet knowing if they don't get help they will be worthless to herself & others. Released April 19th, 2013, 'Home Run' stars Scott Elrod, Dorian Brown Pham, Charles Henry Wyson, James Devoti The PG-13 movie has a runtime of about 1 hr 54 min, and received a user score of 60 on TMDb, which collated reviews from 45 top users. What I love about Home Run is the many stories of lives through out the entire film. Not just the main character Cory Brand, but Emma's,Karen's, Clay's, Tyler's and Carlos....so many avenues in which to see the power of God's ability to bring about positive change in lives when we surrender to Him. There is a place in the film when Cory is listening to Karen's testimony & all of a sudden there is no one else in the room but the two of them..a powerful example of identification. At that moment, Cory saw that he was not alone nor unique.
